Justifying Insanity?
Charles Krauthammer tells us to keep cool in our debates about judges and the role of the courts. He reminds us about the point of an independent judiciary. But he also seems to take some of his argument back at the end of this column, when he comes close to justifying recent Republican insanity.
A colleauge told me recently that it's ridiculous to think that judges can be immune from political partisanship. I guess that she thinks we just shouldn't have a court, but I didn't feel like pursuing it with her. I find it amazing and depressing how pervasive this point of view is in educated circles.
