The Domestic Threat to Constitutionalism

We called attention in August to a piece by Brian Anderson in CityJournal on Senator Charles Schumer's attacks on the administration's judicial nominees. Anderson has recently repeated his arguments for OpinionJournal. Schumer's attacks and filibusters represent one of the most serious domestic issues confronting the republic, for they pose a challenge to constitutionalism itself. Schumer has targeted "originalists" as being untruthful for arguing that written statutes have meaning or intention which may be more or less understood and to which judges should adhere. Kudos to Anderson for continuing to highlight the threat "Schumerism" poses to constitutionalism.
